Celebrating its 50th season in 2019, Theatreworks now boldly moves into the future under the guidance of brand new Artistic Director Tim Bond following the retirement of founder and driving force Robert Kelley. Bond flies the troupe's flag ever higher during a diverse, multi-cultural and innovative 2020/21 program of works old and new.
The season kicks off with the regional premiere of Madhuri Shekar's provocative play Queen. Deftly exploring the nature of the scientific method, ethics and the global demise of the honeybees, the thrilling story follows mathematician Sanam Shah and biologist Ariel Spiegal as they study to discover the cause of colony collapse disorder. Just as they are poised to publish their revolutionary paper calling for a ban on commercial pesticides, Sanam discovers the numbers don't add up. Faced with a monumental choice, Sanam must either side with her scientific principles or the planet's health.
